On the future of the internet gambling industry in the United States, Sandman commented, “There will be more progress in Congress to advance the legislation. I’m optimistic that there will be further developments to decriminalize and legalize internet gambling. Whether it happens this year or next year, I’m a bit uncertain. The election year has made the Congressional calendar shorter. However, I think that there will be further developments in the House and hopefully in the Senate.” Congressman Barney Frank and Congressman Ron Paul have introduced legislation that would prohibit the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve from enforcing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The bill has already gained 11 co-sponsors since mid-April.
